Standing ovations, thousands of fans, and a following more often associated with rock stars: Café del Mundo has become one of Germany’s most successful musical exports. Blending flamenco, classical music, jazz, pop and rock into a distinctive sound, guitar duo Jan Pascal and Alexander Kilian are redefining what the guitar can be.
Opposites in character — like fire and water — Pascal and Kilian create an extraordinary chemistry on stage. Their contrasting personalities fuel captivating musical dialogues, bringing technical brilliance and electrifying energy together in performances that regularly leave audiences on their feet. The Süddeutsche Zeitung captured their boundary-pushing sound with the phrase “audibly limitless.”
Café del Mundo demonstrates just how far the flamenco guitar can travel beyond traditional folklore. Rooted in Andalusian tradition yet inspired by contemporary pop, rock and electronic music, their repertoire builds a bold bridge between musical worlds. Their ambition to bring the guitar to wider audiences has taken them to London’s legendary Abbey Road Studios and led to recording collaborations with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The duo first met at a music workshop in 2007. Since then, they have released more than ten albums and established themselves as a distinctive force in the international instrumental music scene. Their reach extends far beyond the concert hall, with millions of YouTube views — including their acclaimed arrangement of “Viva la Vida” — and more than 250 million Instagram streams. They call their approach “Guitartainment”: a compelling fusion of virtuosity, musical diversity and live entertainment.
Whether performing alongside a full orchestra or captivating thousands of fans in a major arena, Café del Mundo connects with audiences across generations. In 2026, the duo will be honoured with the OPUS KLASSIK award in the Tour of the Year category, further cementing their place on the international stage.
